4-24-2012--West Catholic Quiz Bowl Team Places 2nd in the State
Grand Rapids, Mich., April 24, 2012-- The West Catholic Quiz Bowl team capped off its most successful season in school history by finishing in second place in the Class B Division of the Michigan High School Quiz Bowl State Championship at Michigan State University on April 20 and 21. West Catholic lost in the finals to three-time defending state champion Detroit Country Day.

2-17-2012 --West Catholic Football Team Scores Practice at Notre Dame, Out-of-State Matchup to Kick off 2012 Season
The West Catholic High School football team will travel to Indianapolis to open the 2012 season. The team will compete against Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit Academy in the first game of a triple header to be played on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Warren Central High School in Northwest Indianapolis. Two other schools confirmed for the event are Warren Central and Indianapolis Cathedral High School. Game time will be announced at a later date.

1-31-2012 -- Catholic Central Student Named Semifinalist in71st Annual Intel Science Talent Search GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 30, 2012 -- Catholic Central senior Jessica Wojtczak was named a Semifinalist in the 71st annual Intel Science Talent Search. This is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition. Jessica is one of 300 finalists out of 1,839 entrants, the largest number this competition has seen in over a decade. Each Semifinalist receives an award of $1,000 from the Intel Foundation with an additional $1,000 going to his or her school.

12-20-2011 -- Cynthia A. Kneibel appointed principal at West Catholic High School GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Dec. 20, 2011 -- Mrs. Cynthia A. Kneibel has been appointed principal of West Catholic High School. Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools President, Tom Maj, recommended Mrs. Kneibel to GRCSS Pastor, Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker, and diocesan Superintendent of Schools, David Faber, who approved the appointment earlier this week.

10-11-2011 -- West Catholic Announces Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 11, 2011 – Interim Principal Cindy Kneibel of Grand Rapids West Catholic High School announced this week that Katrina Marks has been named a Commended Student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

10-10-2011 -- Catholic Central and West Catholic Students Top Goal in All A’s Walk Fundraiser GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 10, 2011 -- Students from Catholic Central and West Catholic high schools raised $102,395 last Wednesday in their 20th Annual All A’s Walk, topping their $100,000 goal by more than $2,000. Nearly 1,200 students from the combined schools walked three miles to John Ball Park in the culmination of a month-long effort to raise funds to assist Catholic Secondary Schools families with tuition costs.

10-6-2011 -- Evening of Excellence Awards Dinner will Honor Three Catholic Central Luminaries GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 6, 2011 – Sister Robert Ann Erno, a Dominican teaching Sister at Catholic Central High School, will receive a Lifetime Service Award for her 41 years of service at the school’s first annual Evening of Excellence Awards Dinner. The gala dinner and program will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, at the Eberhard Center of Grand Valley State University in downtown Grand Rapids.
... The evening also is an occasion to recognize two outstanding Catholic Central alumni. Receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award will be 1975 graduate Peter Ragauss, senior vice president and CFO of Houston oil and gas equipment supplier Baker Hughes. President and CEO of Roanake, VA-based Advance Auto Parts Darren Jackson will accept the Dominican Spirit Award. Jackson is a 1982 grad.

8-8-2011 -- Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary School Students are Standouts in Advanced Placement Courses
GRAND RAPIDS -- Significantly higher percentages of Catholic high school students in Grand Rapids passed Advanced Placement (AP) exams in 2011 with a 3 or higher compared to their peers statewide, according to data released by College Board in July. Read the news release (pdf)
